Hello,

I'm about to purchase a 180 gallon fish tank in need of some love, but WELL worth it for the price. This tank is drilled and has an over flow. I currently run an FX5 on my 125 gallon fish tank which i planned on using. Will i be able to set this up by getting an attachment for the drain installed on the thank or will i have to consider a sump. I'm not looking to get away from the FX5 as its a good unit, but never owned a drilled tank.

I also want to build a drip system. Do i need a sump or can i manage a good system with the over flow and fx5 hook up? Let me know with advice on setting up a non failling drip system.
(I've done research, but am still over whelmed by the drip system)

Thanks

I would absolutely set up sump filtration. It's too versatile not to take advantage of your overflows. I run cannisters on all of my tanks running sumps. I just like the additional filtration. Plus I can set up another tank on a whim having cycled filters available.
