Hi guys,
Wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread. Just wanted to know a few things about my 180 gallon leaking tank so here it goes.

I bought a 180 gallon glass tank (6'x2'x2') on the cheap because it was leaking. I've had it for about 2 weeks now, the silicone job the guy tried to do to patch it was crap and I started scraping off all of the old silicone and while I was doing that I found that the left side panel was a bit loose. After further inspection I figured out the guy must have been scraping away at the silicone between the glass on that side panel which caused it to become a little loose. I figured since I was already almost finished scraping off the old silicone and didn't have much time to finish the tank I would just re-seal and then see if it would make it stronger. Any who I finished taking off the old silicone properly and then used Acetone like UaruJoey say's too so it will dry up the old silicone and you can brush it off to the side so that the new silicone can be put on properly without any new silicone to old silicone problems. After I had finished that I laid down some painters tape and a thick bead of GE Silicone 1.

I let it cure for a week and checked it to see if the side panel was still loose and found that it was but not no where near as bad as it was. I could wiggle it pretty good when I first found out it was loose and now it doesn't barely move, maybe just slightly. So now I'm puzzled as to what I should do with it. Strip all the new silicone out and take the whole tank apart and Acetone and sand it down and then re-silicone the whole works or just leave it be it should hold?

The tank glass is 3/8" thick(thinnest 180 gallon I've ever come across) and has no trim just 3 middle glass braces. It was only $100 so I couldn't go wrong, it came with stand and the guy helped deliver it :woot:

I would put trim around top amd bottom as the main way of holding the glass up and let the silicone only have to defend against leaks...

rip it apart and redo the the whole tank properly, better safe than sorry.
