Hi, I really want to put a 180 on the second floor but I'm scared it might not hold. The reason why I think it might work is because the room upstairs where the tank will go is about 1'6" larger than the room downstairs leaving a dividing wall right under where the tank will go for extra support.

I'm not sure if I explained it the right way but if you understood do you think it could work? Thank you

IVE HAD A 180 ON THE SECOND FLOOR FOR 5+ YEARS NOW THE HOUSE IS THE SAME AS IT WAS WHEN I MOVED IN ITS AS CLOSE TO THE WALL AS IT CAN BE N NEXT TO A JACK STUD THAT GOES FROM THE ATTIC TO THE BASEMENT YOU'LL B FINE

umm wow, so you're telling me back east they build the second floor with spanning joists rather than a inter floor truss system? wow they're brave. not to mention the lack of work space for piping or duct systems. lol

like the above

we built my parents house to last. It had burned down due to a creosote fire in the chimney and 4 of us rebuilt it in a year (outside of electrical wiring, cabinet, a/c, and stucco we did everything) structural load wise they could easily stick a 500g aquarium up there without worry

I'd be leary about putting a 180g on nothign but a 2x10 floor joist system, especially considering any cutouts for piping/eletrical/ ducting.

Sorry to steal this thread but i am worried about my 180 gal as well.
Here is a drawing of the room its going into and where i am wanting to put it. The top, bottom and left hand side of the room are all outer walls of the house which are brick. The house is only a foot and a half off the ground and the wood looks like red gum and about 10"*2" or larger. Also i have built a cabinet which distributes the load accross the entire base of the cabinet. Should i put in some extra brasing under the house?
