As some know in my other thread, i'm building a 180 gallon tank stand/hood now and trying to decide on some stock. It's the standard 72x24x24 of 180's and has dual overflows on the back. I'm thinking of getting 4-6 Severums and 5-8 clown loaches also. Would love a veija also, but don't if that would be pushing it. Any opinions?

4-6 sevs should do well in a 180g. I'd get 2-3 different species and a pair of each, which would give you a nice contrast. If you scape it well, they may all have enough room to breed.

I would stick to the sevs and try to breed them with good auqascape but thats just me

You could do six severums with some smaller friends. Most severums ignore smaller cichlids. You could also do some deep-bodied tetras or something.

I see you're in Florida -- it's too bad you didn't catch me last week, I got rid of two giant male severums that I loved but didn't have room for anymore. :(

Sounds like a good plan. You add some rainbow cichlids or other smaller types to give you some action around the bottom of the tank. I currently have 5 sevs (among other things) and a group of clown loaches in my 180 and they are doing great.

Thanks for all the responses :) Sounds like I have a stock plan and yes I did plan on getting a few of them such as red/yellow/green. I use to have a green that I loved years ago and just thought that with this tank i'll have a huge opportunity to explore them again. I do like the ideal of some tetras to add a little mix...thanks.
