So, I am purchasing a 180 gallon saltwater reef aquarium and am planning to slowly transfer it to an aggressive FOWLR setup. It has a 55 gallon sump and a protein skimmer rated to 400 gallons. I am new to aggressive fish and don't know what is compatible. I was wondering if I could have a/some blue spot stingrays, a humu rectangle trigger, a grouper (not sure which one), a porcupine puffer, and a tessellata moray eel? I don't know if they are even compatible, im just checking out my options.

He random numbers lol welcome to the forums,

First off, what is the size of your tank...not gallons l x w x h this is a very important roll for sting rays.

Triggers and puffers usually don't mix well from what I've read on mfk

Tess Eel get huge and thick maybe if you start one small you will time to upgrade or find a better home. Some one like The Canuk will chime in about eels as he has kept a very large green moray eel.

If I'm not mistaken blue spot sting rays are hard to get eating (I forgot if it's the blue tails or blue ribbon tails), if your tank has good surface area you could probably go with more hardier rays like cortez or yellow rays.

Here is what i was thinking as a stocking list...
Zebra eel
Snowflake eel
Humu rectangle trigger
Porcupine puffer
Blueline grouper
California stingray

I believe that the foot print is of a regular 180 gallon (72 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 25 5/8)

Hopefully someone will chime in with a better understanding of rays,

If you want the sting ray most likely you will have to have tank mates that are large and docile (I know how most aquariums have rays with very aggressive fish like sharks, but then again they are fed often and in such large systems)

I have a feeling the trigger and puffer might cause problems for the ray....but like i said I'm not 100% I'll look up some info now
