I currently have a 17" Red Bellied Pacu, and I would like to get some more tank mates... I was wondering if these fish would cooperate with eachother.

RB Pacus?
Arowanas?
Common Stingray?

Any Suggestions or hlep would be appreciated.

Thanks

i would suggest losing the pacu as they can easily get 30" and by common ray you probably mean a motoro which can also get about 2 feet in diameter!
but they are slow growers so you could keep a juvinile in that tank starting off at around 6" for about a year to 18 months depending on feeding and what not

Getting rid of the Pacu isnt an option. Ill build my tank around it. I may upgrade again. Motoro is not what I was thinking of, but I can do that as an option too.

Just some tankmates for my Pacu. More Opinions. Bsixxx thanks. I will value more of your opinions if you have any.

its not only mean to keep a pacu that big in a 180, it would be even worse to add tankmates. dont even think about tankmates till you get like 1000+ gallons, even that is way to small but since your not willing to give the pacu to someone who can properly house it, atleast it wouldnt be as miserable.

There are extremely few hobbyist that can house a pacu, Im sure that if this person returned the fish to a LFS it would be sold to someone with a considerably smaller tank than the 180G. The fish has room to turn around and room to swim freely...for a Pacu in a home aquarium thats an accomplishment it seems. I knew a guy that had 2 Pacus in a 55G tank...that were so large they could not move...they couldnt turn and they were essentially stuck where they were....he literally told me that ever so often hed catch them and turn them the other way. He eventually took them to a LFS which I know doesnt have a tank larger than a 75G...they could probably atleast turn around in it...but it still wasnt much of an upgrade. In a perfect world the Pacu wouldnt be sold for the aquarium...but it isnt the case. I ended up with mine because my friend purchased one for a 10G...because the people at walmart said it would be fine.

Anyway to the question, you already know that the fish will outgrow the tank...and youll have to upgrade...no need to further harp what you know. I really wouldnt go with an Aro or anything else that gets of substantial size. Oscars, tinfoils, lima shovel noses all make really nice tankmates for a Pacu. I actually keep giant danios with mine...its rather interesting to see a 2" danio beside the 12" Pacu. They would also do really well for that tank when the Pacu requires an upgrade and is moved on :)

I'm getting a 180 gallon tank soon and I would be scared to have a tankbuster like a pacu in there. That's a whole lot of water.
