How bad would it be to set up a 180 gallon tank on the 2nd floor? It will be running perpendicular to the floor boards, and most likely in a corner. The footprint is 6'X2'. Let it be known, I love my wife, even if she does kill me.

well, my 100G is upstairs, no problems, but i dunno about a 180G... how old is your house? and would it be possible to put it downstairs or in a basement? Just to be safe, it wouldn't be so much the fact of it crashing through your floor, (never seen it go all the way through) it would be the scary thought of the floor sinking, the tank becoming un level and the silicone popping.... ive never had something that big upstairs, im sure it would be fine, but if possible put it downstairs

Oh, so you dont have a downstairs, ok then i would check with the owner of your complex before doing it, he could tell you the weight limit on the floor, because with gravel deco and water etc, your looking at 2000+ pounds

all my tanks are in the 3rd floor

I'd say go for it. If you want to be sure, and your apartment is "aquarium - unfriendly" then ask your landlord, but I'd just make sure to keep all valuable electronics off the floor ;)

Just think... W.W.MFK.D?

(what would MFK do)?
:naughty:

Does anyone think building a platform to add a couple of extra feet of footprint, would make a huge difference?

at 2000 lbs its 166 pounds per square foot....not too bad in the corner......a thick sheet of ply 3x8 with the tank against the wall would be better ( 85 pounds per square foot)....but every building is different

make sure to tell tour wife you love her !!!
