hello i was wondering about glass thickness i have a 43 inch long by 19 inch tall 10 mill tempered glass and i was wondering if i could make a plywood tank 63 inches long by 3 foot wide by 22 inches deep is the glass thick enough and what thickness of plywood should i use

from what iv been told by a local tank builder 10mm glass is fine for up to 24" deep regardless of the length or width , water pressure comes from the depth - you go to 30" and you need 12mm glass

i was rethinking my idea,i have two sheets of this glass.could i make a 6 by 4 by 2 foot tall tank with two viewing panels and what thickness ply will i need

just use 3/4 ply mate that you get from any builders merchants or wood shop, as for the glass ther is a pretty good calculator for glass thickness on one of the stickys at the top of the page, as long as your under 2 foot 10mm should be fine, i just put the glass in mine today and that was 12mm but my tank is 28mm high

3/4 is best for sure but for some reason 5/8 is alot cheaper i used 5/8 a few times with no issue.

yeah its the same here in the uk but i think its because its generally used as shuttering ply e.g. boarding up windows and such, even in the higher quality stuff iv found voids in the cut and iv had to use filler in it. I suppose it depends on what kind of finish your looking for, but 5/8 will defo work especially if its getting fibreglassed
