180 gallon tanks for rays?

is it OK to keep a retic ray in a 180(6' x 2' x 2') for life? are there any other rays that would be a better option? current stock is 1 florida gar, 1 ornate bichir, and one red tail payara. I would really like to try rays but I'm not sure on which species to try.

Either a retic or a hystrix will be fine in that tank. Hystrix are hardier and IMO they look better, but also a little pricier

Sure give it a try. Retics are hard to get eating but as long as you have a stable system with good filtration then they should be fine. Just do not get discouraged if you have one die on you at first because it could easily happen. They should live in that tank for many years. If their tail and front of disk can touch the front and back glass at the same time then upgrade.

i'd prefer to go the path of the retic sting ray. How interactive are they? would it be safe/reasonable to hand feed it? would they get along with the other stock?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard/read that male Motoros are much easier to take care of and only get to about 18 inches full grown.

The blackpo looks like a Leo but this is believed to be a scam so be careful. Retics are cheap but often die when young. Hystrix would be good if you can find one. Also some male mm (marbles) seem to stay small.

I would vote Hystrix also. There was one listed in the market place recently. Read up on the type of filteration used by ray keepers.
