Hello all, I am Nelson, I have been keeping and breeding various fish for years, my main fish has always been discus, I recently have been selling all my tanks, equipment, fish ect and because of you guys (lol) I am building a plywood 180, I have previous carpentry experience, anyways, I have been lurking here for a long time and I finally joined today, I am looking for feedback on what to keep in my tank, why am I asking this? I am looking to keep something different, the tank is 6x2x2 and I am not sure if I am going with a sump or large canister yet but, let me know what not so common fish you would keep in a 180 gallon?

As ideas are suggested, I hope I can edit the poll options and add on to them

Welcome to MFK!

Welcome to MFK. I'm pretty new here myself. Great people on here.

Just curious, why are you building the 180 as opposed to buying one. I think you can probably find a used 180 (6x2x2) or 220 (6x2x2.5) used for about as cheap as what you can build a plywood tank for, maybe cheaper.

Also, I vote discus for the stocking, mainly because I just love their shape and color. I don't have any yet but plan on stocking some in my 220 when I get it up and running.

Where are you located?

Have fun with those water changes if you keep juvies.

I'm lucky to have my system for water changes set up the way it is... I can do a %40 on my 210 in less than an hour. If I had to use buckets I'd sell the tank and keep the fish I like the most (Hard to do because I like them all).

Lol, I will be keeping them in my 29 while they are juvies, so that I can do lots of big water changes. Once they're grown out to 5 or so inches, I will move them into the 220.

I plan on having two 55gal water change barrels so I can fill them with the hose and them preheat the water and age it. Then I will use some large pumps to pump water right out the window and then pump new water in at a ver quick pace. Ideally, I'm hoping to be able to do a 25% water change in 15 or so minutes, and a 50% water change in about 30 minutes. We will see though. Lol
