More often that not wider is better than longer. IMO

I HAVE A 6 X 2 AND LIKE IT ALOT BUT I THINK I WOULD LIKE A 8 X 18 BETTER IF I HAD TO DO IT AGAIN THATS HOW I WOULD GO

6 by 2, 18 inches is around the width of 75 gallon. I prefer them wider,but I guess its all up to what you plan on keeping. have a 220 width of 2 feet, and I'm thinking if I could do it again, I would rather have a 30 inch width.
