Hey guys,
I'll be setting up my 180 gallon (6x2x2) here by the end of the month and would like your input on my stock plan. Right now, my fish are in a 75 until the 180 is ready to go (not full size so don't freak out). Originally I was planning:
2 senegal bichir
2 delhezi bichir
1 tuegelsi bichir
1 black ghost knife
1 albino oscar
6 silver dollars
1 marbled gar (pike characin)

but have began to rethink my options due to the fact that my silver dollars are food crazy and make it impossible to feed my slower moving bichirs. I'm thinking about removing the silver dollars, and possibly the black ghost knife because he and tuegelsi are both the alpha's of the bottom and I think there could possibly be a territory issue down the road. So the new stock would consist of:

2 senegal bichir
2 delhezi bichir
1 tuegelsi bichir
1 albino oscar
1 marbled gar (pike characin)
6 geophagus (don't know what species yet)

So if you guys could give me input on those 2 plans that would be great. I'm also open to other ideas as well, but would like to stick to the predator type theme, and the bichirs are going to be a part of the stock regardless. I had also thought about a smaller species of ray (removing the bgk), but I figured the smaller species are tough to get where I am and a 180 may not be best for life. I will be running a sump so filtration shouldn't be a problem. Again I'm open to any and all opinions, so let me know what you think.

The birchir stocking seems a little thick to me. I would take it down to 1 each honestly. The first list would be the way to go minus the bgk in my imo.

I actually like the first stock option but suggest the smallest specie of silver dollar's. Also would be concerned about the Senegal once the Oscar outgrow's it. Keep in mind Oscars will be the largest contributor to the bioload.

thank you, I've had the senegals longest actually and they're probly about 7" now and I'm waiting on the oscar until the 180 is setup, so I think we should be good there. Is there anyway to get my silver dollars to stop eating so much lol, they literally eat anything and everything including massivore pellets. I now have to feed the bichirs with a pvc pipe and is really becoming a hassle

Only suggestion is drop the food in after lights out. Polypterus have excellent sense of smell. Have you ever tried cut up Tilapia?

drop food in with a tube unless you want it to be hassle free but i like first option as long as there isnt any aggression

thinking about just getting rid of the silver dollars regardless, it’s just too much of a hassle trying to feed the bichirs with them in there and keep them away from their food

You could get some pvc pipes and install a tube that lowers into the pipes so you could feed them directly. It would work best if the pipes were too small for the silver dollars to get into.
