I found this tank for 150$ on craigslist. I'm working on putting it in the wall in the basement behind the will be bar. I want to make sure I get what I want in it the 1st go round because it will be hard to work with because the top will only be about a foot from the ceiling. Any pics of similar setups or just ideas would be appreciated. I also have a 120 I'm putting in the wall as I finish the basement as well. I am commited to Oscars and dempseys already(they are in the 120).

So you have oscars and dempseys and a 120 and a 180 what would you do?

It could look nice, but I wouldn't do it unless I had a way if easily cleaning and rearranging the inside of the tank. Usually people build a wall surrounding the tank to allow for a hidden walkway behind the tank for maintenance, etc. Another option would to add a hinged flap in the wall above the tank.

I will have complete access to the back of the tank. There will be a small open room behind the tank. Maintainence will not be a problem at all. The only problem would be putting large objects in the tank(rocks, wood etc.). I have about a foot between the top of the tank and the ceiling.......maybe a foot and a half. I may also have hinged trim in the front.

Ive got it all worked out I just don't want to be unhappy with my end result and have to remove and add more large objects.

You will just have to wait to stock the tank until after its installed. I wouldn't put anything in there that I couldn't take out later. Keep in mind, you might eventually want to change your stocking or decorations.

Fish are bred to look the same, not act the same. Especially with cichlids, you never know how any Oscar or Jd is going to act with others, and it's hit or miss really. I would never risk functionality based on wanting to keep certain specimens together in there on the first shot..

I got the tank in place and have more room than I thought. I'm not worried about the jacks and oscars getting along. I already have them but they are in my 120. They get along fine. I'm more concerned about type of rocks and substrate I want to put in.

Man, that's a steal . . . I'd kill for a deal like that. More and more I've come to love simple tanks- paint the back & ends black, put in a couple pieces of driftwood, and that's it. Especially in a wall like that. Keep it simple, and it'll look really clean.

Also, I'd go with a sand substrate- the longer I go with sand bottoms the more I like it.

Update Finally got the wall roughed in.....still got lots of work to do.

Meanwhile I replaced my 120 with a 150 reef ready

I ran across another deal I could not pass up so now I already have my next basement project sitting waiting 84X24X24......$200
