OK, with that comfirmed about using that pump, now i move onto media selection

wait before i do that. . . .
I couldnt find a big enough wet dry in the buy and sell forums so i guess ill buy one from tenecor, looked into glasscages.com but i dont feel calling them for an estimate, keeping it simple. A model 60-500 from tenecor will do

http://www.tenecor.com/accessories.php

not sure what size and type of pre filter to use. any suggestion with the type of pump i use?

as for the media: choices are:

bio-balls (obviously)

bio-glass for added surface area. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4173&N=2004+113804

6 chemipures ( chem filteration)

and a bio- slab denitrifying block
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4173&N=2004+113804

ok about the bio-slab has anyone used one of these?? i want to use one to keep nitrates low between water changes, ok, now. . im not using it as an excuse to not do or delay water changes, just to keep em low even after a waterchange.
healthy fish!

i heard and read goldfish can tolerate high nitrate level, and so can a human who smoke cigarettes. you see? not good over a long term period

not taking chances

If you have room in your sump you could use live plants(aquatic or terrestrial i.e.philodendrums)to help with the nitrates and oxygenation, they would also increase you biofiltration considerably which would save the cost of bio-balls,bio-slab.Ive had a 55 gal.planted tank up for 2 years and never had any ammonia, nitrite or nitrate readings period.the only filtration on the tank is a fluval 303 with 75 grams of purigen and 2 trays of ceramic rings(came w/filter)I do by-weekly water changes of 10 gals.I am in the process of setting up a planted sump for my 90 gal.with nothing but cutting from my 55.If you think about it ,it's a natural process, plus it looks real nice too.just a thought.
