I'm after some suggestions, on how to stock a 180g (Standard 6x2x2)

So far i have 1 male Breidohri and some blind cave tetras

Some of the fish i would like to add, depending on compatability would be.

Geophagus.
Gymnogeophagus.
Bolivian rams.
Thorichthys.
Vieja.
Salvini.

Ideally i would like to build something as peaceful as possible around the Breidohri. I wouldn't mind keeping him with some other larger Cichlids, but i don't want a tank full of ripped fins and battered fish. If anyone wants to suggest other species, i'm all ears.

Any info, advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It really depends on what you're looking for such as color appearence, interaction, decoration setup/arrangement, etc. I had success with keeping Geophagus with my Breidorhi with no issues. If you want it to be peaceful, don't do any other Vieja's as they can be aggressive with their own kind. From what I understand, Gymnogeophagus require a cool down period which the Breidorhi may/may not adapt to well. Maybe try some Lyonsi as I found they aren't really aggressive. I would try and find species that hang in different areas/levels of the tank so it doesn't look bare. Just food for thought.. Good luck

Hi,

Thanks ! I thought the cool down period was only needed to breed ? I could be wrong though

I might try and give some Geophagus Altifrons a go.

I would really like to try a midas or Xilo in with him, but i'm sure it wouldn't end well.

Maybe i should just find him a few females to pick from...

My bro just started a nice collection of various gymno's and they have already spawned without the cool down period so I don't think its only for breeding. I believe its to assist with coloration, life span, etc. If you decide to get some females for him, watch them carefully as they do get aggressive during breeding time. I have a foursome of them and they get along pretty well, but they do get the cracked fin or missing scales on occasion. I have a few pics and vids out there if you're interested. Good luck with your decision.

Cheers, i have seen your Breidohri threads. I had mine on black substrate the same as you. I have recently changed my male to a natral sand. He has lost that really deep purple, he's faded to almost white with a turquoise face. I thought he looked nice before, but he is looking better now. I did have a few others growing out, but they were not as good quality as him, so i let them go.

I would say go for geo. and 6 thin bar silver dollar. fun to watch

I think if aggression isn't an isuue, Geo's would look great with him...... Not sure about the Silver dollars though:shakehead

honestly id just do the solo male bried in there. that would be a happy fish

I might have to, when i started this thread there were 6 blind cave tetras in with him. He's killed them all ! I wasn't sure about them so i only got a few. Seems he liked them about as much as i did

Dilema, send me a few pics if you don't mind. I'd love to see how he looks now with the light substrate. Since everyone is doing so well, I don't know if I should really mess up a good thing, but have always wondered how they would look.
