Ok i want to start a 180 gallon for my wolf cichlid.The question is do i need to do anything to support the weight in my house.i have a 1 story house.

More than likely not.

Probably not, but you may need to add reinforcement. Does your house have a basement, crawlspace or is it concrete slab on grade? It will be alot of weight(my 180 set up is 2700-2800 pounds)and the most important thing will be placing the tank so it is perpindicular to the floor joists.

180 may get a bit small for a dovii in the long run. Most single story houses can have a 180 with no probs at all. Just have a sturdy stand.

it is not 2700-2800 pounds its only 1500 pounds. 180X8.33=1499.4

how did you get 2700-2800 pounds thats like a 325 gallon tank...

as long as you have a concrete base then you should be good , if you house is raised on cinder blocks or other supports you may have to put supporting underneath desired location.

Try to get under there and check out the crawlspace, make sure your tank is positioned so it crosses a couple of the floor joists, rather than between joists.

I'm pretty sure my floor won't support my next tank without reinforcing, so there are post jacks in my future...but you're probably OK with yours.

+tank weight of about 400lbs + stand weight we'll say 200lbs at the most. So more than 1500.00 but I don't think 2800lbs..

BTW 180g is fine for a dovii for life.. If he outgrows that you will have the biggest captive dovii in the u.s. lol

I posted about this a few months back. This thread may be helpful, in it is Dodgefreak8's example of reinforcing used in a crawlspace;http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68277

:screwy: Over looking the obvious, only the the naive would think a 180gallon setup only weighs 1500 pounds:confused:

Yes 180 gallons of water weighs 1500 pounds. Because of the laws of gravity and physics, 300 plus pounds of glass is required to contain this water. Now placing the tank directly on the floor sucks for veiwing, so the tank needed to be elevated. Time and budget dictated that I go with the cheapest, quickest, available option for a stand. Twenty eight cinder blocks at 32 pounds each plus a couple of 2 x 12 planks later, the tank sits upon a 900 plus pounds of sturdy, but heavy, stand. A few other items needed to coplete the set up, gravel, driftwood, filters, light fixture, etc. so throw in another 100 pounds.

So as stated in previous post;

MY 180 gallon set up is 2700-2800 pounds. Unless you are planning on using one of those kiddy pools from Walmart, the weight of the tank, stand and everything else required for your tank, should be considered.:)

You added alot of weight because of those cinder blocks.. You cheated your way to 2800lbs.. lol
