180g tank for 6 red belly p's....I have lots of dry fertilzer left from a recent plant project....Will any of the following dry fertilizers be of any good use for my cycle:

Potassium Nitrate
Potassium Sulfate
Mono Potassium Phosphate
Plantex CSM+B fertilizer

How about using pond turtles for cycling, maybe 2-3, plus some danios or goldfish....For filtration, I'm building a wet/dry....Most likely I'll give Bio-Spira a try, what do you think???

None of those ferts will help. You need ammonia. Bio-spira is great stuff, but costly. If you can afford enough for that tank, I'd say do that.

Thanks...The Bio-SPira costs $10 for a bag that'll treat 30g, I'll try it...Do I apply BS with the animals, or do I let the creatures settle down and do some pooping first???As for the turtles/fish combo, sounds good???

Put the Bio-spira in with no fish in the tank an let it go for atleast a day.

Does'nt the bacteria need something to feed on, like animal waste????The filter slots on the top have been closed up with silicone and plexi, so I can't get my AC500's on it...I'm starting off with a new wet/dry...

YEP! im doing a fishless cycle and I had to dose it with ammonia b4 using bio-spira

That is correct, bio spira needs an ammonia source..That is why you add fishes when you add bio spira..If you dont add fishes, then the bio spira bacteria is going to die off and starve to death..

lol... I meant I dosed tank with ammonia "BEFORE" i used bio-spira. If your doing a fishless cycle use ammonia but if you have fish in your tank already "DON'T" put ammonia in your tank you will kill your fish. If your gonna use ammonia make sure its "pure" clear ammonia with no other ingredients. you can go to your local supermarket and probably find some. to make sure its pure shake the crap out of the ammonia bottle and if it suds up dont use if you get no suds or bubbles its safe to use. hoped i helped. ive gotten alot of help here so its only right i help others like myself
