I've had my silver arowana since he was 5" and is now roughly 8" living in a 40b. I wanted to do a pond but my mom doesn't like the idea. As an alternative she recommended a 180g 72" x 24" footprint. I'm just worried he'll outgrow it and it won't be worth the investment. Do you guys think I should invest in the 180g, or keep pushing for the pond?

I'm sure he'll outgrow it. I've seen some pretty monster silver aros.

Silver Aro will outgrow 180 gal., I say keep pushing for the pond, but don't see your mom changing her mind.

find a cheap used 180gal and go from there. itell buy u some time 2 figure out ur next upgrade for him. ive picked up acrylic 180's for $300... glass ones go even cheaper $150-200. u can then use the 180 as a sump for whatever future upgrade u desire.

Wednesdays got a good point a second hand budget 180 is better than nothing and buys you time to convince your mum or build a big plywood tank

If you had to sacrifice, maybe going a 300G would be better? Since i'm pretty sure a Aro should last pretty much for life in a 300G no?
