im going to pick up my free 180 today. It was originally a saltwater tank i wanted to know with a good scrub on the tank and sump can i just fill with freshwater and cycle? It has no sand or rocks. Just tank with residue on the walls. I was thinking of using vinegar? Any suggestions would be helpful. I will post picks tonite after i put a moving team together. Probably gonna need help resetting the sump up too.

Diluted Vinigar is good. Mr. Clean sponges are good for removing grunge. A little salt residue isnt going to hurt fresh water fish so dont worry about every last nook and crany. Many people add a small amount of salts to their fresh water tanks.

I use lemon to
makes the tank shiny

I used Vinegar on a canister filter i bought from a saltwater guy.....I ran it thru twice....1/2 hr each time and then ran freshwater thru it for another 1/2hr....it was fine after that...

ya i usually add a tbl spoon per 10 gallons. Thats what i figured. What about the media in the sump? how would i run vinegar through this? i can scrub the tank so thats not an issue.

this is also my first time using a sump and i was wondering if i could put the heater and airstones in the sump?

Yep. Thats what a sump is good for. Hiding crap. Make sure your return pump's hose is secured on tightly and your return line isn't deep in the tank or it'll back siphon. Thats what happened to me and i had 100 gallons of water on the floor. Good luck!

 explain please

So what happened was my hose connected to the pump that returns water to the tank wasn't on tightly and came off. The other end of it was so deep into the tank that half the tank drained out when it back siphoned and overflowed the sump. I'm not really sure how to explain it much better haha
