Hey guys I have one coming in a couple days from drsfostersmith.com for my 180 and I was wondering how I should set it up. It says that it should have 240 gph going through to control algae. Anyway I have a cascade 1500 canister, and a fluval fx5 running on the tank right now. The fluval is supposed to pump at 925 gph and the cascade is supposed to pump at 315 gph. Is it alright to just attach the sterilizer on the return line of the cascade? or i have a bunch of powerheads laying about if that would be a better idea. how would I set that up? thanks for the help guys!

you should have a max of 240gph because otherwise the water is not exposed long enough i think a power head os a better option.

Let us know how everything goes! I am thinking of getting one.

I have the 9 and the 18 watt versions. Both work great. I had green cloudy water one day the next morning the the water has been crystal clear ever since.

how are yours set up?

i have one setup basically get a pump/power head attach a flexible pipe( the right size diameter and attach to the in take of the sterilizer then attach a pipe on the out take and either attach it to a sray bar or whatever you want you can even use it as a prefilter on a wet/dry.

thanks for the link Raul-7! If I cant figure out a way to hook it up to my cascade then that is what I will do. I was reading earlier threads where a guy wanted to hook his up to a xp3 and it was said that although it is rated at 350 gph, with the pipes, and media it would be lucky to push 200 gph. does that mean my cascade which is rated at 315 gph should be pumping less than 200 gph since it is filled with media? If so then I should be able to just hook the uv sterilizer up on the return line right?
