Hi Guys,
this is Heiko Bleher
and I wanted to start this thread, which is - to my life-long experinace - the most important one for this, the most beautiful and educational hobby in the world is:
"One has to know for sure its source of its fish. That is to say, one must know if a wild fish where it come from (its habitat, its water parameters, its mates and its naturel nutrition); and for a tank bred fish who has (or where it was) bred (ie America, Asia, Europe, etc.), and if possible get the information of that source, that is: what water parameters it was raised in, its feeds, its surrounding grown up in."
To know the source of your fish is the most important thing for your successful, healthy and peacefull environment in your aquarium. As long as you follow those steps, and as long as you give to your fish what they want (and need) - and not what you want...
This is just a start, but the best. Ie for discus for instance I have given more than the 10 most imprtant lessons at www.discuspassion.com under Heiko Bleher lezione, and it is all written in English (and also in Italian).
It has helped the Italian hobby tremeduously and people are keeping wild here as in nature, and the fishes are happy and helathy, just beautiful (look in the web under Bleher's Biotopes or on my website, as well as elsewhere).
Take care, for the start and you will be hahy and your fish even more...
always
