So im a single dad and my 10 yr old daughter that started her own tank. I gave her $400 to do as she will. She bought a 46 gallon bow front to start. Than raided my supplies to get gravel and decor. Than bought a ac 110. And i built her a temp stand for like 25 bucs. And aftre ive seen her research firemouths and some other smaller cichlids, she came home with a flowerhorn because she says she has been researching them as well and just wanted to try to breed some.

we took pics with my phone because her cam"s batteries were dead so sorry for the not so great pics. Im not a photographer, but i can build anything. What do the experts think.

Seems like your daughter knows more than you do. That's a female ZZ and I hope your daughter loves it! Great fish...:D

Female ZZ.....very cool to have a child with similar interests.....one thing I love about flowerhorns is how there colors and patterns change as they age....she should enjoy watching her fish as it ages.....Just let her know that Flowerhorns can be tricky to breed because of there aggression....if you do buy a male for the female one day make sure you introduce them with the help of a divider so that no fish dies....

Well you prolly right big one, i never tried keeping fh before, thats prolly why she chose them. As long as she does her research she'll do fine.

Nice looking fish and tank. Very nice to have a kid interested in the same thing as yourself, too. Best of luck to both of you with the new fish, and welcome to MFK!

I have four kids and none are really interested in my fish, so I think it's cool your daughter is taking it up. I am still somewhat new to fh's but I thought I'd tell ya this tidbit. Make sure if she attempts to breed the male is bigger and more dominant or the female WILL kill him! Good luck and enjoy your new little hobbyist!
