I heard the frogs a chirping and decided to go looking for frogs with my two younger brothers 9 and 11 and my other brother who's 22.

We found tons of frogs but most had babies on the way so no way am I going to use those as food. Anyway we found 2 real small frogs and in the tank they went.

Man my bass have not freaked out over food like that EVER. They loved that meal.

Plus at night we found about 30 nightcrawlers. SWEET cause I won't have to spend money on bass food for a while with all the night crawlers on the grass and frogs that are about to spawn.

I actually had to save one frog cause the first one we put in was too big. I saved his life and released him. thats when we found the small guys.

Do you know the species of frogs you are collecting? I'm not getting into the whole stupid issue of feeding them but given the fact a good number of frogs, even if locally abundant, are in decline across the country. Washington state happens to have a number of frogs that are Special concern, threatened or endangered. I'm glad to see you where not collecting the spawning frogs but still be careful about what species you are collecting.

I agree with poly, always make sure you know what the species is and it's status in your area.
I caught my first frogs on January 7th, that's here in NY BTW, very strange. Found a green and a leopard while fish collecting.

Yeah, you know I'll double check that. I'm not sure so....

My brothers are in town from hawaii and so we all got excited and went out a catching. I'll check before the next feeding. Plus I'm not going to feed anymore untill they hatch cause I don't want to risk any spawners.

They are insanely abundant around here (we caught 12 frogs in 30 feet on the side of the road. wasn't even a stream or pond.) so I'm assuming I'll be fine but you're right they may not be around the world so we'll see.

there is TONS of green tree frogs where i live, probbly what your finding also. its funny tho cus there 7.99 at petco

Yeah I'm sure that is what they are.

Honestly my parents live on a lake around here and we see about 300 frogs a year on just their .25 acre.

Some of those somehow find their way into the lake and get chomped up by the bass in the lake. :D :naughty: :D

Unless you are in Whatcom county you should not be seeing green frogs Rana clamitans..Green Frogs have only been found in a few areas and the only known persisting population is in Whatcom between Bellingham and Mount Vernon...Again make sure you know your frog species before collecting them, many look very similiar and many of them are in sharp decline. Just because they seem abundant in your one area does not really mean much as habitat fragmentation has widely seperated existing populations.

Below is a good link on the various species:

"The Pacific Treefrog is the most common frog species in Washington and can persist in a variety of habitats including developed and disturbed areas. While local declines have been reported from selected extensively urbanized areas, no major declining trends have been noted in Washington."

100% Certain.

I think I also caught a few of the Cascade frogs as well but did not use those guys. They were to pretty to me.

Thanks for the link.
