It was the craziest thing yesterday there was just a tiny dark spot then today the spot just grew (alot) now it is totally obvious she is pregnant.
I was woundering is it okay to move her to a uncycled tank with no filter if I do not put gravel in a make sure to do alot of water changes?
Also how can I make a drop net for the fry? I have seen them on ebay and they are suppose to fall through and the momma is not suppose to be able to get to them.
Also how can you tell how far along she is?
Thanks

she's just a guppy

she wont have any problems delievering, she'll probably be pregnant in afew weeks again

You can purchase the breeders at petco, or petsmart... maybe even walmart. They're really simple - just float them and put her in the top of the water. The uncycled tank might put her into shock - I know guppies are hardy little buggers but they are very prone to ich and to velvet. You don't want to compromise her immune system, especially if you are so excited about these fry. If you have any questions, you can ask me. Ive bred guppies for years, and know quite a few tricks to make the easiest breeder even easier :)

Good luck with the fry!

HI I am new to this place so I might not type it right. What I did when my guppy started breeding was i took the female out and put it in a slurpee bottle or and other tank you have. If you think the female will eat the frys just simply use a net and take the frys out. It will not scare the female from not breeding because they are not egg layers. after breeding just take the female and put it back in the tank. my guppy breeds everyday. I ended with a over stocked guppy tank.

Just my opinion.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU

Hi bethie_dawn,
Here is a picture of two breeder nets that I made.

The red framed one is a plastic coated coat hanger for the frame and the net came from a bag of decorative rocks I bought for my tanks. The net is small enough to keep the momma in and it lets the babies drop right through.

The other one is made from the bottom of a rectangular plastic bottle and the straight part of a plastic coat hanger. I cut the bottle so that only the corners remained and then I glued some scraps of netting to it. I got the netting from the remnant bin at walmart. I used PVC glue to glue the netting, and it worked great.

Live bearers often give birth over several days and not always all at once. My very first guppy had either 12 babies on the first day. The next day she had over 100. I don't know where she was hiding them... I also recently had a molly give birth to seven, the next day she had 58, and several days later she had two more.

X2 on the breeder traps you can buy at petsmart/petco, because then you can just float it all in your existing tank without having to worry about a cycle.

as far as how far along she is, the gravid spot (the dark spot behind her belly) will grow and get dark. Right before birthing, or close to, it may lighten (or not) and her body will become more squarish at the belly. I have an exaggerated picture I can post of my female that was so pregnant, she died from it. Personally, I think she was a little too old and overstressed by the new males maturing in the tank.
