Hi All,
I'm setting up my new 125 gallon tank with a wet/dry sump for some African Cichlids. I have the stand built and am now attempting to do plumbing. I am scared to drill so I decided to go with a HOB overflow. I'm so confused. I was thinking of building my own but am worried about noise and getting it built right. Also, I have to build two so maybe I put that money into something really nice. The DIY I was considering:

I'm thinking about a CPR 1200 (not sure about needing a pump for this one) or a eShopps PF1000. (I like the idea of two return lines.) The pump I'm thinking of is a Mag Drive 9.5 although I know NOTHING about pumps. This one looked good on the chart.

Can anyone please help me out with some wisdom?

Does anyone out there use pumps & overflows? If so what do you use, what do you like about it and what do you wish was different? It there a different forum site I should use?

I like the DIY overflow you linked to. Looks like it would work out nicely.

I have a CPR overflow on my 110g - I have not experienced any problems with it though it is not silent. I prefer the CPR design to the siphon tube style, much easier to stop/start and you do not have to worry about siphon tubes.

In my experience, mag drive pumps are not terribly noisy. You can set them on a rubber pad to isolate some of the vibration/noise if need be.

I use a magdrive 9.5 on my 220. I love it. As long as you have the setup done correctly the pump will not make escessive noise. My tank is drilled so I can't help with the HOB overflow issues.

:) WELCOME!,Sheldon_Goldwing.:) Good luck with your tank. There are usually at least a few 'regulars' that seem to answer questions on here. Lately it seems there's either a whole bunch of ppl on here, or hardly any at all. Like you could hear a cricket, know what I mean? Sometimes we have to be patient and wait for more ppl to answer, and I know that's hard to do. :D' If patience is a virtue, I am not very vertuous '.:D I'm think'n alot of us are still shoveling this heavy drifted snow:cry:, or maybe loss of eletricity? I consider myself lucky, no power problems YET. Just be patient.;) If no one gives you the anwers you looking for, just post your question again 12 to 24 hrs. later. Okay? Like I said, Good Luck with your 125 gl. tank. Wish I had one.
