I need to make a stand for a 55g. Was thinking about making it along the same way they did in this thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146900&page=3&highlight=indy+stand .

I see a lot of stands made out of 2x4's, 2x6's, 4x4's etc... I have a fair amount of spare 1 1/4" x 6" x 12', would this work? Was planning on following the basic stand plan they used in the link posted above. I would like to keep it from getting too heavy, as I am moving in a few months, and would likely move once or twice more in the next year or two.

It's way overkill. 2x4s will work, even 2x3s. You're only talking 500 to 600 pounds of tank and water. 1x6s will add unnecessary weight.

Yep will add in a few extra braces. Will post up some pics once I'm done for a critique.

You will be fine.
