Hi everyone, i just recently bought a house and wanted to use gas/Hot water heater to heat up my 2 2,000 gallon tanks. Any ideas, advice or help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle

Need a lot more information than that. What do you have for hot water now?

If you have a boiler for radiant heat it's easy, just set up a water to water heat exchanger on a thermostat. Something like (though I'd build it myself...):

If you are talking about a standard hot water heater it's probably not a great idea, they aren't designed for recirculating water.

To start from nothing you probably want to buy a pond heater or jacuzzi heater. Not a simple / cheap thing for sure. Something like;

To my knowledge though the most common for that size is just to heat the room, since the aquariums will end up heating the room anyhow. That way you just tie into a zone of your home HVAC system.

Thanks for the reply. The house has not been built yet which is why I'm inquiring about it now. It will have a regular natural gas hot water. The aquariums end up heating the room? I will definitely look into the pond and Jacuzzi heaters tho. I appreciate the advice. I was thinking about possibly running water lines underground so they won' be exposed going into the sump.

Aquariums end up being radiant heaters, yes.

It's actually quite trendy right now to do radiant heat, lots of high end homes do it. You can literally have in floor heat for your entire house. Set it up that way, and the aquarium is just another zone. 100% what I'd do.

This 1 is 16 ft long. The other 1 is 12x6. Both have center overflows. I will definitely look into the radiant heat, i really appreciate it.
