I would have picked him up if I had room and if I lived close. I picked up a little 10 inch rescue a while back really beat up. 
My LFS doesn't buy them. We only accept them as donations because they normally come in at 18" blind in both eyes and completely beat up.
There is a surprisingly large number of 12+ inch ID sharks in my area and they are too much like a virus to try to sell them. The last time I saw one at work it was 9.99$ (When they sell catfish cheaper, people buy them and eat them). Now they are all ending up in some of the bosses' tanks since he isn't really sure on what to do with them.
I really doubt that the ID sharks will be sold by the time winter comes and they freeze or end up dying in a tank at the store.
