Im getting two new jagers for my 120g and i was thinking 2 300 watts? It gets pretty cold and my hydor 400 is a pos and when its set at 80 it stays ay 72 and wont change the temp. Wouldnt this make the electric bill better? As in it would heat up for shorter times? Would 2 300 watts be too much? Im looking to keep it at 78 and the room temp is about 64 or so in the winter.:nilly:

Yeah i was thinking i might as well over do the heating and filtration since im looking at getting a 180 in the future? The 250 and 300 cost the same so wouldnt it just be more cost effective? Thanks!

Also would it be that big of a deal to get a controller?

I live in Winnipeg, gets cold as heck in winter. My basement (fish room) sits between 62-64 and I run a 300W Jager in my 150. Keeps the tank at 76-78 easily. It's a plywood tank, so it might hold the heat a little better.

There are a lot of heater sizing charts around, but basically the ambient room temperature is going to be your deciding factor. If you're going to upgrade to a 180, why not? You should also check out titanium heaters with a built in controller.

With the way heaters are blowing up lately, I would much rather have two underworked, oversized heaters than one overworked heater. I have two 300 watters in my 150 and they cycle for a short time every once in awhile. But, it's 72 in here also :)

I agree with this also. I run 300s in a 55 and 75 also. :headbang2

Yeah i guess if i get the 2 300watts they will work alot less that helps lot.
