Has anybody lost a dat to overfeeding/choking? My dilemma is that I feed my small dats first a mixture of blood worms and crushed massivores until their stomach is bloated. My two larger dats and catfish in the same tank wont touch the smaller stuff, so then I feed them. Problem is, three of my 7 small dats go and steal a whole massivores when feeding the big ones. It takes them about 15-20 minutes, but they get them down whole it seems, and then their stomachs are super hyper extended like a gulper catfish or something. I've been raising dats for a couple years, but I think this last batch of indos was captive bred. They went onto pellets extremely fast, grow a little quicker, and act a little different.

Yeah my dat has been downing whole massivores since it was small. Idk if they can die from it though, you could soak the pellets to make it easier for them to down at least that could help.

my dat hopped onto massivore when he was about 5in...

the first time it ate a massivore i sensed it had an "oh ****" expression. hahahaha

now he's happily eating about 4 a day...

i think those 3 that are eating massivore in your tank are just the outgoing dats of the batch. hehe

I grew out some indo's from about half an inch to 8-9inches in a year feeding them massivore. They love it and will do just about anything to choke those pellets down. They'll be beasts in no time.

lol this is way off subject lol could some one please tell me how to start a new thread i am new to mfk and have some qestions thank you and sorry for getting off subject ;)

Seems like your numbers are growing with your story.

I have grown out dats since they were 1/4" during the IT flood last year and have not had any datnoids "choke" due to over feeding. There were times when their bellies were so round and they were swimming around with food stuck in the mouths but no choking.
