2-75’s on a PetSmart 125 stand?

I got these two PetSmart stands for $10.

Ones oak for 75 ones black for a 125.

Got two petco special 75’s for $100....

Obviously one would fit on each, trying to save space, not a fan of oak, was going to paint it ?

I’m thinking either two 8’ 2”x9” studs flat on top, maybe think piece of plywood to tie them together or 1” sheet of plywood ripped down the middle doubled up to make 2”.....

Or I could spend $350 buy two matching stands.... trying to keep costs down...

Any ideas? Thoughts.

I know stand built for 125- I’m 25g over = 200#

You could spend $50-60 and build your own double tank stand with 2x4s, hammer and nails. If you have a drill use screws instead.

I’m front of window, super ideal.... hopefully semi temporary, gotta isolate 8” RTC eating his tank mates quickly.... shoulda read before buying, dude at LFS is like sure they will be good there for a year.... $540 later..... one fat RTC n 3 less tank mates....

That should work for a short time, but i would get to work on a properly supported stand asap...you dont want to add "flooded house" to the list of problems youre facing as a fishkeeper.

Ive never made that mistake with an rtc but sure enough have with other large fast growing fish. Good luck getting it all sorted!

I don’t like the look of that, I’d be worried the lack of support directly under the tanks would cause a problem. You’d definitely be better off building your own that spans the length of both. Joey, DIY Fishkeeper has YouTube videos on large stand builds and they are a good place to start if you need design ideas. It’s really not all that complicated or expensive and you can customize it however you’d like.

It also occured to me that if you do try this setup, definitely fill them both up at the same time. And drain them at the same time as well.

I know it seems like common sense but hey they took all the seesaws out of the playgrounds so kids these days might not know these things....

I'm sorry, but this looks like a disaster waiting to happen. You're better off just placing them on the ground until you can either build a proper stand or find one used you are comfortable with.

Maybe place them on a few cinder blocks temporarily to make water changes easier.

I agree with the other members please don't do that with the aquariums. The stand is manufactured to handle the load of 1 aquarium.

You are putting 1,500 lbs on a stand that was original intended to support 750 lbs.

I hear ya, I think your math may be off though. Stands for 125g. I put 150g no gravel so, 1200 #’s of water water vs. 1000#’s with a traditional 125.

After the temp set up is not needed, I’m almost into putting this outside and see how much weight it will take....

It kind of would be worth it...
