ok i have an ac 70 an a ac 110 on a 40 gal breeder. my question is about media. how does having nothing but sponges in the 70 and a sponge and biomax in the 110, i am trying to get the cleanest aquarium i can get with these two acs and i know there are a few different ways to put media in the acs . So i am open to suggestions

Filter floss or whatever its called works good...you can get a lot for really cheap. Cut it to the right size.

I used to have an ac with just sponges in a 20 gal tank. It kept the water clean, as long as you do regular water changes. I started using 2 sponges + biomax on the top. It is great, very rarely do I buy filter media any more. If you want really clear water, stuff one AC with a sponge and all filter wool, and the other with a sponge and bio max. You could also add some carbon if you want.
