2 african brown knives in a 55 gallon

Every fish is different. You can try but have a backup plan.

It should work. African Knives are not normally aggressive towards eachother.

They may fight. I believe they form loose shoal in the wild, so you might want more than 2. It always seems that if there are only 2 shoaling fish, they will fight.

Also I'd provide several caves so that they all can have a seperate territory/hiding spot if they want/need it.

i have 4 african brown knives in my 55 gallons they do fine pretty much they hang togehter. it should be fine

i always put an odd number of fish together so i think 3 or 5 would be better to cut down aggressivennes

i got 10 in my 125 and they get along great. but thats a larger tank and plenty of hiding spots. also, i did not add them at the same time but i will say i had started off with 2 and they got along so i kept adding more.

Yes.

I'd start with four if you really want to be safe, but two might very well work.
