So quick question or am I being old school in this thought process. I use to regularly hear and believe (I still do) that aggression is suppressed more with 3 or more (odd number).
The 2 Armatus I had started going after each other. Was this to establish dominance? Or... I am going to kill you because you are going to eat my food and threaten my survival. If the first option is the case wouldn't three help eliminate this? Sounds goofy, but I am sure someone knows what I am talking about. I am tired and had a long day so thays about all I can give in explaining.

Anyone?

How about a group of red tailed tats? They do better in groups.

Aggression is suppressed the more there are, it's a positive correlation. 3 isn't going to disperse much. They don't school really so more space wil help in this species. If you want a group go with tats. They may fight but not as bad. From my understanding that is

Comments are noted. Just curious as they were always together in the tank. I never really saw them apart. They would just start beating on each other then be back together.

I grew 2 armys together from 2inch to 10 and 12 inch. Once the bigger one established himself he started to become aggressive to the smlr one and the 2 atf i had in there at the same time. They were in a 500 gal so space wasnt an issue. Juzt an aggressive fish. I believe ur best off keeping one andd growing it out by itself and no other s of its specie. Thatz what i did. 1 big gatf and that's it.

I had 3 and grew them from 6" to about 14-16", before I started seeing aggression. Then one mysteriously died. One started to grow a lot faster than the other and that's when the fighting started. I sold the big one at about 16" and the other at about 14". In my experience they get worse with aggression towards each other the larger they get.
