Well Ive always wondered this so Im finally going to ask. Is it possible to have a tank to big for your fish? I mean I have a small red tail hes only like 5" and I kinda hesitate to put him in the 8' round indoor pond yet. lol might get lost. But mainly worried he wouldnt get to food as fast as the others. So do you think in general that a tank can be to big for a fish or not.

it would mainly depend on the exact species and tankmates in that situation, however we are on Monster fish keepers.... In that sense of the word there is not such thing as To big of a tank....

If you feel like your red tail would have a hard time competing with the other fish to eat then hold off some , won't be long and he will soon be out competeing the others ...

Good question! It depends on several variables -- Size of other fish in the tank or pond and types of fish, as well as how much food you make available during feedings.

I would think seeing 1 oscar in a 500G would seem excessive. So the answer would be yes..........

I think you can have such a thing as to large of an aquarium for a fish but I think it would take alot to make that possible.

Like you said a single 5" fish in a 8' round tank would be silly.

But I don't see anyone doing that ever. I think the main concern with a small fish in a big aquarium is food. as long as the fish knows when and where its getting food at then you can't have to big of and aquarium.

Think of it on the bright side if you have 600 gallons for one 5" fish you would only need to do a WC like 1 everyother year. lol

the difference is in the wild they are swimming around for food.. not being givin food by humans. so there is not a food supply just swimming about.
