2 convicts in a twenty...

A twenty long 2' tank would be fine but they would be stunted if your wanting it as a permanent home. They can get 6" TL and that is a real sight to see. I had a buddy who had a bunch of convicts in a 20 gal tall tank and they were all no bigger than 2" and that tank ran for years with them like that. I'd do it! They are pretty much indestructible fish.

there is a difference between "two cons in a 20g tank " and " a bunch of cons in a 20 tall"

I have a male and female in a 20 long, the water is changed weekly and it has a good filter , my male is pushing 5 1/2 inches and he has been in the tank sens he was under 2 inches with his female, the fry are removed soon after wiggler stage, and i have 6 hiruki danios as dithers for them., planted with java moss and an anubia.

my con are not stunted, a 20 will not stunt 2 cons..but it wills stunt " a bunch of cons" in it.

20 is bare minimum for a healthy breeding pair of cons, and 20 long is even better give them room to swim and hiding places for the female..so she is not killed by her mate.

A 20 long is actually 2.5'

Make sure you have plenty of hiding spots for the female if you go this route. I've lost a few due to aggression when males want to breed and the females don't when keeping them in 20 Longs and 29's (same footprint).

I breeding convicts in a 20 gallon long now. Just have somewhere to put the fry. The tank gets overcrowded real quick.

The answer is yes...if you keep the water in good shape there should be no worry about stunting.
