I have had both of my pbass die this week. They where 16+ inches had been healthy eaters but went off feeders about a week ago. They typically eat minnows they would only eat live fish. About 3 weeks ago they did eat some feeder goldfish I got form the bait store when I bought there minnows. Water parameters are normal. I saw the first bass having labored breathing and rough looking fins so I increased the tank temp from 80 to 86 and added to API salt he started to look better and then just crashed. The other bass has been laboring a little so I did 50% water change w RO and kept temp at 86 and re added salt been doing ok but still a lilltle breathing labored then all of a sudden tonight went CRAZY jerking and jumping and violent swimming then belly up with a few more violent jerks but died within 10 mins. DOES anybody KNOW what JUST haPPeNEd???? This is making me sick and crazy

Was there gills pink and covered with mucus? Were they skinny? Was the gills a gray-ish color?

could be a number of things parasites (water quality ) to say the water Quality is normal does not say much when fish are sick the water is effected and it shows Just been my observation with my tanks.....

Gills appeared to be their normal color kind of ivory w pink striations. They seemed to b jerking there head more like something was bothering them. Water ammonia 0, nitrite 0 nitrate 40, ph 8

Agreed with Hulon. A number of factors could be the death of the fish. From parasites to ph shock.

Did I mention there is a tank full of other fish that seem to be doing great all I can come up with is the goldfish they where the only fish that r big enough to eat trout line comets

Cant say for sure but id guess it ate parasite riddin feeders given the time of eating and dying esp if its JUST those 2 fish

That's all I can come up with bc the leporinus, shovel nose cat, and other cichlids have eaten off this batch of minnows just not the goldfish. They where trot line comets that I got from the bait store so pretty good size goldfish

Feeders will not up and kill 2 bass with in a week with out any signs of the parasite. Looking at op's passed threads, his bass looked heathy. His tank also looks like there is a lot of "dead spots". And when op did a 50% water change, it could have stured up all the dead spots water and mixed it with clean water effecting the water dramatically. Pbass are sensitive to mass ph changes and will "cough", twitch and breath labored if done so.

No ph change I have been checking it. It was about 3 weeks since they ate the goldfish then they ate minnows for another week then didn't eat I do about 20-25% water changes weekly. When the first fish started to decline I added Prime and Salt and More Carbon I have a killer filtration system with 2 - 250 gallon wet drys and 2 2400 mag drives I change my floss weekly I try to keep a clean tank bc I don't want to look at a nasty mess in my house
