if you are good about not over feeding, have plenty of aeration, and possibly also have a nice sized powerhead to keep the water moving, then you should be ok.
I mean I would be getting 6.4X turnover, but their HOB's. What you all think, I could get a canister later, but for now I would like to try and use these for quite awhile.

The gars barely eat, like twice a week. I have a strip airstone but it sucks, I could get another or even two, I really like the circle ones. I also have two AC 70's(400 gph powerheads) which I was going to use, just wanted to see what the deadspots were with the Emperors.
That's 6.4 times the turnover but filters are tested before any media is put in. As far as biological filtration the bio-wheels will grow as much as is needed for those 2 fish. The only thing I'd be concerned with is water movement. If Gars do, in fact, need good water movement I'd do what Bosco said and get a good strong powerhead. Powerheads count as turnover, too
I have 2 Emperor 400's on my 2 125's that handle most of the filtration for the tanks. I also have a xp4 on both to provide water circulation and additional filtration. There are also a "fizz bar" in both tanks for additional aeration. I use no carbon in any of my tanks (except when needed to remove med's) instead I put extra mechanical in its place. Both tanks are fairly heavily stocked and have never had a issue in regards to water quality using this setup. I also do 50% or better water changes weekly
ya i have 2 marineland 350s on my 125 and they are fine for now but i am going to put on a fx5 and a sump and it will be ready to be overstocked
but ya really i think that 2 HOBs a fx5 and a bubble wand are the perfect filtration for a 125
just because the length of the tank creates a need for the HOBs therefore avoiding dead spots
If your feeding live feeders then that is alot less mess and waste then if you are using pellets or something. If your feeding live and doing a 50% water change and vac every week i think you are fine. But if your feeding a pellet I would do 2 vacs a week.
