I have a large fire eel that only eats live ghost shrimp is there any way to start him on any thing diffrent. im currently spending $10 a week to feed one fish out of 20 and two turtles wtf i need help if possible.

Same advice as with any carnivore, starve him, and he will evenually come around and start eating what you offer. I'd offer bloodworms, using a rigid tube to get them right next to his face.

I dont think you should starve it. I dont know how to switch them onto dry foods besides trying frozen or freeze dried krill and wiggling it like it is alive. But I learned most spiny eels will not accept foods they dont want til the day they die.

Have you tried live night crawlers or earth worms? They are a lot cheaper and you can leave them in the tank till the eel wants them. I have mine spoiled with them. Wal-Mart will have night crawlers in there sporting goods section and any bait store will have the earth worms. Post some pics of your eels. You dont see to many of the big eel's:)

all i have to say is wow that eel looks like it could swallow mine i guess im under feeding mine or hes just too damn. picky my tire track has some nice girth but he eats any thing... so i guess ill try the worms next time. i feed those to my turtles regularly so ill get em next pay day and try em out thanks again every one for the help:headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

I too have a rather large Fire eel and all it eats is frozen BloodWorms! I must soak in vitachem to make sure it gets proper nutririon. here is a picture for you. It's a year old but my camera took a shat!

i too have a couple of lovely fires. one will only feed on regular worms but the other started eating mussel and shrimp a couple of weeks ago. before that, he wouldnt eat anything but worms. I starved him from friday to tuesday and by then he was so hungry he would eat anything. no problems since. the other eel, even after that starvation period, would not touch anything else. some eels just don't go for other things. a friend of mine has exactly the same with a fire. i wouldnt try for dry feeds, that will almost certainly be a no-go. i must add that since i feed one mussel and shrimp, it does seem to grow faster.
