In a 72,24,31 240 gallon tank can it work or would they slaughter each other ? Anyone ever try it?

Whichever is dominant will run the tank, the subdominant one will either be killed, or constantly harassed and kept in a corner. Not gonna be a good situation for the subdom. I would just get a female and have a breeding pair in there.
I had 6 jags in a 180 gallons tank for years and they all got along fine. I have a video on tube showing them eating live. Now to answer your question I don't think having 2 will work.
