I'm making a Nano out of this 2 Gallon tank. Right now, I am nursing a female convict that was beat up my a male convict. I will be removing her soon back into her tank, so I'm going to give it a really good cleaning and hope to make it a nice looking nano.

Stock:
Cherry Shrimp
Betta? If I can?

Plants:
I want to make a small carpet in there, maybe with some Dwarf Hairgrass
Java Fern

Lighting:
what kind of bulb can I put in there for growing the plants?

Any Advice?

Jason

I would skip the Whisper Filter and go with an AC20. You can adjust the flow rate.

It's either going to be Cherry Shrimp or Betta, but you can't have both as the Betta will eat the Shrimp.

DHG would be a nice carpet, but they tend to need good lighting and they don't really "carpet", IMO. They will, but it will take a long time. Anubias Nana Petite would be good. It's not a carpeting plant, but if you get a group of them, it would look sweet. The only thing is...they are a bit pricey.

As for lighting...looks like you have a hood that might only fit incandescent bulbs. For Anubias, it wouldn't be a problem. As for DHG, you would need an upgraded fixture.

nice! Small carpet with some Dwarf Hairgrass & Java Fern would fit nice! Sand would work! Check out my 12 gallon jbj nano cube I got set up housing a flower horn until my 90 gallon is up and running!

Led light would work, I would stay away from anything walmart(Cheap Crap) Google around for a deal, or craigslist it for led light, some really good deals you can swipe up for lighting! Post pics when tank has been transformed!

You could do a nice setup in there. The disk lamp will work if it's the right color spectrum. A CFL would work better though.

I second the Anubias nana petite. It doesn't take long for it to grow to the point where you can divide it. Some thin branches of driftwood would look excellent in there. I would do the shrimp with some micro rasboras or a Dario dario.

CFL and florescent always heat up my water too much and then at night the temperature would drop a couple of degrees. I used an 11" LED on my 2.5 and there is virtually no heat from the light and it's super bright but doesn't drown out colors like florescent. I believe the 11" LED is 3.5 watts, in the proper spectrum. Right now I have been succeeding with crypt parva, which has been difficult in anything other than high light.

For filtration, I would just use a small sponge filter and bury it under the gravel. That is by far my favorite method of filtration for small aquariums, since it's simple, effective and easy to control flow. And then you won't see the sponge, only the uplift tube which is less invasive than a filter.
