My local fish people I talk to said 2 heaters in a "medium" size big tank really don't do nothing to help the power bill or add any pluses. I got 2x 300w Jagers going in my 120 thinking it will heat faster and distribute evenly. Once desired temp is reached it also doesn't take much ON time to get it back to the temp again. Seems 1 will strain heater no matter what the heater is rated for

I use double heaters in my tanks. One of the main benifits is if one heater fails you have a back up and could avoid a serious situation. I've been running double heaters for years.

I run one heater on my 120, I think more than anything it comes to preference, but I do think that have two turn on and heat the water is a little more wastefull if they are not on a central monitor to make sure one is not still heating once the desired temp is achived. but thats just my take, I have 4 heaters on my 600

I have 2 aquatop 300w heaters in my 135g, they're located in each of my overflows. However for the longest time I only ran 1 and never had a problem. When I saw them on sale for $12, I snatched up a couple extras and put a second one in. In the event of a failure, I'd probably never notice though. You can't easily see them and they're almost never on.

How many watts you need depends on the ambient room temperature.
I have a single 300 watt on my 120, a 200 watt on my 75, a 300 on my 125, and 4x300 watt on my 500.
If your set on running two heaters I would suggest 2x150 watt, or the single 300 watt.
