Trying to do some planning. I need to keep 2 ciclids (a large yellow lab and a blue johanni) in a 10g tank for a day or two. They are currently in a not quite 40 with a pictus cat for company and getting along with no aggression towards each other, etc.

Can they do OK in a 10g for a day or two? Or will the smaller space trigger a bunch of aggression?

They should be fine. Africans cope well with overcrowding and in fact that is what keeps them harmonious. Ive done that several times for medicating or quarantining with no problems.

they will be fine but it wont hurt to throw in a piece of decor or two, ( a fake plant, flowerpot, rock, drift wood) any thing that might provide some sort of hiding space just so that can hide if they need to and feel more comf. which equals less stress.

last time i kept two cichlids in a ten gallon tank (they were 4 inches each) the male killed the female the same night i put them in... i wouldn't reccomend it unless you use a divider

Also you can consider a tank divider...they are cheap enough and easy to install and the peace of mind is worth it. My sick tank is 10 gallons...when I once treated 2 fish for bloat....they did fine with the seperator in place...and it was fun to watch them try to spar off on opposite sides of the tank without causing damage. Id be careful....
