Wattup all...I'm running a 2" drain and a 1/2" return line, all hard line on my 240 gal tank, with a 60 gal sump. Wondering if your opinions I can get on my return. The pump is a Quiet One 9000, and I'm thinking of upgrading the plumbing. Don't know if I should worry about it now. Originally I was gonna have two 2" drains since my tank is plumbed with a bunch of holes. I probably should leave it but I'm thinking of the life expectancy of my pump since I'm using reducers on it to plumb to the 1/2" line. Think it'll be more of a hassle and just leave it, or will it be more efficient if I upgrade it? The pump says it's putting out 2328 gph so that would be almost flipping the tank 10 times an hour. I guess the question is should I be running a bigger return line and should I even worry about changing it..

Quiet One 9000 is rated at 2328gph at ZERO head/hose heidth . On the back of the box it has a chart for Head/Hose heidth. Pumps loose GPH the longer/Higher the hose is... Say if you have a 6 foot hose on that pump it will pump 1700GPH. Pluss the 1/2" return you have on that pump is to small. Your loosing GPH flow on that also. That pump was designed for 1 1/2" discharge/Return. That pump is made to push some water and 1/2" will not supply a lot of water campared to 1 1/2" return.

cool. i should have posted in setup and filter forum, but your right. just a matter of me deciding to change out the plumbing since my tank is set up and might be hard to get to the back. really wish i went with bigger return piping.
