On my way home I stopped by my LFS to pick up some feeders for my Balloon GT's and NeedleNose Gar. I saw some little Arowanas for sale, I said to the salesgirl, "I wouldn't mind getting one of those, but I won't have a tank large enough for one for about a year or so." She said to me, "don't worry, they don't get big." I just had to stand there and look at her like she was a moron. That was the first interesting thing...
Secondly, I put my feeders in my small community tank, and my small (4") Senegal targeted the biggest rosie and started attacking it and ate the thing whole. I had no idea that my bichir would do that! Now he's all fat and happy.

Just thought I'd share.

I did tell her that that is completely false. I didn't want her to think I was calling her an idiot to her face so I just shutup after that. I hope that anyone getting fish would actually do at least a little research prior to getting something like that. Oh well, she keeps lying to people, she'll get fired..hopefully. I would take my business elsewhere, but here in Dover, Delaware we have The Fish Bowl and PetSmart...and that's it.

Ok, point taken...I am assuming. But if you're gonna work in a Fish Store, shouldn't you know about fish? That's like being a chef and cooking with a rubber pot on the stove. Some knowledge should be had before being trown on a sales floor.

u shouldn't get rosies for your bichir.. breed guppies and use them as a treat..

I got the feeders for my Green Terrors and NeedleNose Gar (in different tank), not my Bichir. I've never seen him go after live food before, so I figured it would be safe just to store the feeders in my community tank.

This isn't even the slightest bit surprising. I correct lfs people often enough that some of them now ask me for info sometimes.
