Hello, I have a 55 gallon with two 4" JDs. They are both female, and have be buddies since they have been in the tank. I had a 406 canister filter on it, but recently moved that canister onto a bigger tank and now the 55 is running two aqueon quietflow 30s and a medium sized sponge filter.

Symptoms started two days ago.

Water gets a 40% change at least 1x week. Had changed water night before symptoms appeared.

Current water parameters are:

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 15ppm
Ph 8 <- been that since tank started, thats what comes out of my tap
82 degrees - i live in Arizona

Always treat with Prime during water changes

Woke up and noticed both fish having white spot developed in middle of forehead. White blotches on one JDs tail fin.. Both of the JDs have a white looking tissue inside their mouths... (almost looks like a tiny cotton ball in their mouths) A dark spot developed under their mouths.

I am having a very hard time determining if this is some kind of bacteria/disease/fungus or is it from beating on each other or moving gravel....

I did see the JDs lip lock one night recently.. never seen them do that before... I also noticed a large amount of gravel has been moved.

I did another water change last night, added Prime, and some Aquarium salt.

I also noticed that the water smelled fishy.. never seen that.. so I pulled the old carbon filters out of the Aqueon HOB and replaced with just cut filter (no carbon) and added some bio ball to each hob. Smell went away after that cleaning/water change.

Last night fish ate willingly and looked better, this morning, their mouths were worse than ever.. Please help... Sorry no pics, couldnt get any decent shots.. I can try later if necessary..

Diet is usually Blood worms, Tubifex worms, spirulina krill, and beefheart... sometimes I include pellets as well...

Thanks!!!
