Over the past five days I've had two of my three motoro females pup out on exhibit. (Third should happen about 2 weeks behind the others). The first one to go was a first time mother....a very young mother. She had two still born middle of last week. Yesterday, my largest female had four, one was dead when I found them. I did manage to pull the three others and transfer them to the fish holding area. They look good and made it past the first day. All three are very light in color and have abnormally long tails on them (Kinda makes you think the parents aren't 100% motoro). I don't have pictures yet, but will post some when I get the chance. All are about 3" across.
Exhibit water parameters are perfect. The pool is crystal clear and looking amazing. I picked up a new adult male motoro from Underwater Adventure last week, and he's ready to go on exhibit with the others soon. Hopefully, we'll be able to start bringing zoo guests in to see the place soon.

wow! congrats, My rays only aborted they were about 3-4 years old, but I have been told they were too small to breed, the mother couldnt sustain herself and the littles, either that, or they were phantom pregs,

they were about just over 40cms when I got rid of them. =)

nice work though =)

congrats!

Gongrats man, glad to hear it. Looking forward to some pics.

looking forward to pics of the pups!

congrats on the pups. just wondering, when they keep reproducing, what will you do with the pups, i imagine you wont have room eventually, so what do you do?

Congrats mate :)

Motoros have very long tails when they are young. And it could be a long tail motoro wa somewhere in the bloodline.

Frank

Davo: I move the pups to the holding area until they are old enough to compete for food. I won't run out of room very sooniin the exhibit. The pool is over 6,000 gallons and covers a lot of horizontal space. I figure it will be a few years until I end up with too many. However, I will say that being in the zoo world allows us to trade animals to keep the gene pool going rather than line breeding them all the time. Eventually, I'll be shipping pups out to other places in trade for different pups (or other fish).

Frank: I agree. These tails are the longest I've seen on any motoro pups I've had. Thanks.

All are doing well this morning. I've got them in a 8'x3'x2' holding for the time being.
