I'm not really familiar with keeping Bowfins but my girlfriend is bringing me home 2 of them right now from my lfs and i need to to know any kind of helpful info about them like water temp, tank mates, diet, etc. She was picking up a Red Terror for me while getting dog food and they said they got some Bowfins in for $20 each,I told her to buy 2 of them. Thanks!

they get 36"+ with no problem...they tend to have tapeworms so treat for that...hard to keep when young...have teeth...any tankmate is a potental meal though they have been kept with tankmates to big to be eatten...will eat anything they can put into their mouth...clean water not to hot (a tank with no heater just room temp will be fine)...big tank/pond as adults...thats the run around...gl as many have tried and many have died...treat them for the tapeworms for the best results...

they will do that and still die from the worms so treat them...also check your are on them as from my bowfin collection to distribution reasurch as i plan to do just that, i have found that your state has some regulation on them...being somthing along the lines of you can't have them...

i will use somthing from seachem...i am not sure yet...they are pron to having them, but not always thats why i said to treat as it is one less threat...i can't wait till i can start bowfishing and collecting some larger fish for those that want...
