2 pairs of Festae in 250g ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Potential market hem depending on length of tank and the amount of structure. A pair can rule a six foot tank easy. Makes get large. I'd proceed with careful consideration and caution. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Divided 250? Its possible they could be kept together with no divider then again one might turn and try to kill the other 3 just to be the most dominant fish. There are a tons of scenarios that could possibly happen... They all have their own personality, do you already own the 2 pair? What are their temperments like? Reason i ask is because I have a large male that wont tolerate anything else in the tank. I ended up removing the female from this pair and they were together for 2 years before the male decided he wanted the tank to himself (150 gallon). I personally never had any luck keeping 2 males over 8" together in the same tank but like i said every fish has its own personality. Id try it with a divider first and see how one pair reacts to the other through the divider. If they are constantly harassing one another through the divider id say its a no go.

A friend of mine had 2 pair of large festae in a 220, with about a half dozen mbuna as targets. They all grew up together from 2" or so, the males attained around 10"-12", females about half that size.
The pairs would spawn on opposite sides of the tank, and in most cases would live harmoniously, but not always.
He kept another cycled tank at the ready though, and occasionally had to use it.

I have a bonded pair in a 100g tank and an extra female in another tank. I have access to another male, so i was thinking of getting the other male and introducing them at the same time in the same tank. Sadly if this does not go well, I would have no other tank to put the new pair. :( Dividers is not an option as the 250 is my main display tank.... i might just pass on this idea as i dont like getting rid of fishes ...

+1 on the Harem idea.....i do harems with various SA/CA cichlids and almost all have been successful. I know Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 has a tank of 1M 4F Green Terrors also , so i must admit, You'll have a happy happy male but the females could always fight

I have also kept harems of reptiles as well, particularly lizards

+1 on harems used to have 1 male 3 females and i ended up getting over run with fry.
sold most it as dirt cheap and even gave some away to friends with fish stores. then
eventually ended up selling the 4 all together to a friend thats breeding them still for his
shop. now i get most items 50% off or dirt cheap and feeders of any kind i get for free
lol
