THE BAHAMAS
[h=5]hi can i used 2 Pond Boss 525 GPH Fountain pump on a diy 3ft pvc filter for my 149 plywood tank i have no space for a sump over here in the bahamas i can not find a pump what 900 to 1000gph so i want to know if i shoul just make tow pvc filter[/h]

Yeah, you can run two 525 GPH pumps on a DIY PVC filter setup, but it’s not quite the same as having a single 900–1000 GPH pump.
The main thing is flow consistency. Two smaller pumps won’t always push water evenly one might clog or slow down faster than the other, which can throw off how your filter performs. It’ll still work, just not as efficiently or predictably as one stronger pump.
If you go this route, I’d actually suggest running two separate PVC filters, each powered by its own pump. That way:
  • You get redundancy (if one fails, the other still runs)
  • Flow stays balanced per filter
  • Maintenance is easier since you can clean one side at a time
Also, keep head height and pipe resistance in mind those 525 GPH ratings drop once you add tubing and media, so real flow might be closer to 300–400 GPH per pump.
I’ve seen setups like this work fine on similar-sized tanks, especially where equipment options are limited. Not perfect, but definitely workable if you build it smart.
Two pumps = okay solution, but split them into two filters for better performance and less hassle.
